A Sad Day for City

////
There is a feeling of immense sadness among City fans at Stuart McCall’s departure as manager. It seems a short time ago that 800 fans packed into the conference suite at Valley Parade to welcome the hero’s return to the club. But many supporters anticipated that his lap of honour after last Saturday’s home game was his signal of farewell.

The fans’ tributes since have spoken eloquently of Stuart McCall’s dedication to the club and his tireless commitment to the cause. It was characteristic of the man that he chose his own moment to go, and made sure to ease the financial burdens on the club in the process. His stature as a Bantams’ legend stands entirely undiminished, and he well continue to be held in the highest affection and esteem by all true fans.

At the same time, there was a certain inevitability about his departure. As Stuart has recognised himself, he did not seem able to stem the tide of inconsistent results that have seen City drift away from League Two contention.

‘The Trust Board echoes all the messages of appreciation sent to Stuart’, said Trust Chair Alan Carling, ‘We would like to thank him for all his efforts over the past three seasons, and wish him the very best of luck in his future career. The club will need to take stock, and take action to recover momentum. But now is the moment to acknowledge the man, not ponder the legacy’.
